A pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning by Mary Hardin-Baylor was enough to lift the Cru to a 4-3 series finale win over the Louisiana College softball team on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Cats would get on the board first, as junior outfielder Emorie Nugent broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning with a bases loaded walk that scored freshman designated player Kimber Gruehl.

Senior second baseman Stephanie Jaeger then provided the big blow of the inning when she drove in Chelsea Allen and Jessica Johnson on a two-run single to put LC up 3-0 in the top of the second inning.

Those would be the only runs of the day for the Lady Cats, however, as UMHB would score one run in the bottom of the third and then score three runs, two of which were unearned, in the bottom of the fourth inning to go ahead 4-3 and complete the sweep.

LC sophomore pitcher Madison Vige took the loss in the circle on Saturday, as she worked 3.1 innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits and two walks before being relieved by fellow sophomore Nancy Bunting.

Jaeger led LC offensive with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two RBI.

The series sweep brought Mary Hardin-Baylor's season record to 22-12 overall with a 17-10 ASC mark, good for fifth in the conference standings.

The Lady Cats fell to 20-8 overall with a 20-7 mark in ASC play, which places them in third in the conference standings.

LC will look to retain the third spot in the standings when they take on traditional ASC power East Texas Baptist in a huge three-game weekend series beginning at 6:00 p.m. Friday night in Pineville, LA.
