Game One Box ScoreGame Two Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsBELTON, TX - The Louisiana College softball team dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor, falling in game one 4-0 before being downed in game two 6-4 in Belton, TX.
Mary Hardin-Baylor won game one behind a two-run home run off the bat of catcher Chandler Henson in the second inning and a solo home run in the fourth inning from shortstop Myranda Hinojosa.
UMHB starter Rebekah Ragsdale kept LC's hitters off balance by tossing a complete game three-hit shutout while walking just one and striking out five.
Despite getting solo home runs from catcher
Courtney Ivey and designated player
Kimber Gruehl in game two, the Lady Cats fell victim to six unearned runs with two outs in the bottom of the second inning to fall by the eventual final of 6-4.
Ivey and Gruehl's pair of solo shots in the top of the second inning put LC out in front 2-0 early on, as it appeared the Lady Cats were well on their way to another offensive explosion and a doubleheader split.
However, with two out in the bottom of the second inning, Henson reached on an error by LC shortstop
Jessica Johnson that proved to be the turning point in game two.
Hinojosa would rip a two RBi single two batters later to tie the game 2-2. Left fielder Janie Neyland would follow that with an RBI single before left field Leah Brown would provide the big blow of the inning, a two out three-run home run to give UMHB the 6-2 lead and steal the momentum that LC had previously built up.
The Lady Cats fell to 20-7 on the year with the doubleheader sweep, 20-6 in ASC play. The two teams will square off the in series finale on Saturday at noon in Belton, TX.
