BOX SCORE
CLINTON, MS - A one-hit complete game shutout by Lady Choctaw pitcher Ashley Vann helped red-hot Mississippi College down Louisiana College 3-0 in Friday night's American Southwest Conference softball series opener in Clinton, MS.
Â
The win for MC was their ninth straight overall and the third loss in the last four games for LC, who felt the impact of not having senior All-American candidate
Meagan Pearson in the lineup because of a knee injury.
Â
MC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when third baseman Kimmie Conley hit an RBI single down the right field line to score Macey Lee after Lee led off the inning with a double.
Â
A Brooke Smitherman RBI single in the third inning and a Bethany Fletcher RBI single in the sixth inning provided the Lady Choctaws the 3-0 cushion, which was more than enough behind the dominant pitching performance by Vann.
Â
LC freshman left hander
Taylor Leger took the loss for the Lady Cats to drop to 7-2 on the year, as she tossed 5.2 innings and giving up eight hits and three earned runs.
Â
LC falls to 16-4 overall with the loss and 16-3 in ASC play while Mississippi College moves to 16-6 overall and 13-6 in ASC play. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.Â
