The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats, playing in their first games of the season because of previous schedule changes due to the recent winter weather, made a statement on Saturday afternoon, taking both games of a doubleheader against ASC rival Texas-Dallas
Â
Game One Box Score
The Lady Cats got the scoring started early on in game one, as senior second baseman
Stephanie Jaeger hit a two-run home run to dead center field to bring home
Emorie Nugent to give LC an early 2-0 lead.
Â
LC would add another run in their half of the first inning to give them a three run lead before adding four more in bottom of the second inning, highlighted by a
Meagan Pearson sacrifice fly and back-to-back RBI singles by
Courtney Ivey and
Laura Gulotta-Parrish.
Â
Sophomore ace
Abby Maillet was solid in the circle in game one, picking up the win after giving up five hits and no earned runs in 5.2 innings of work before
Nancy Bunting finished the game off in relief.
Â
Game Two Box Score
The second inning was once again the difference maker for the Lady Wildcats' offense in game two, as
Candice Biggs drove home
Courtney Ivey on an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to give LC an early 1-0 lead.
Â
Freshman left-handed pitcher
Taylor Leger would hold tight to that lead, as she fired five innings and gave up no runs while surrendering just four hits.
Â
Bunting once again came on in relief in game two, tossing two innings of scoreless ball to earn the save.
Â
Bunting's biggest moment came in the top of the sixth inning, as she put an end to a potential Texas-Dallas rally with back-to-back groundouts after the Comets loaded the bases up with just one out after two LC errors.
Â
The Lady Cats would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Courtney Ivey doubled to left field to drive in Nugent to make the score 2-0.
Â
Leger would earn her first career win in the circle for LC, while Bunting threw a total of 3.1 scoreless innings combined in the two games.
Â
Ivey would finish the day 4-for-6 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Â
LC (2-0 overall, 2-0 in ASC play) will play Texas-Dallas again on Sunday in a twinbill scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
