ALPINE, TX - Despite outstanding performances from two of their star freshmen, the Louisiana College men's basketball team was unable to end their current losing streak, which now stands at six games, as they dropped a heart wrenching 69-67 decision to the Sul Ross Lobos on the road Thursday night in Alpine, TX.
Â
The nail biting finish was highlighted by Sul Ross' Trevor Doyle's game-winning layup with just two seconds left to give the Lobos the two point win.
Â
Doyle's game-winner came just 30 seconds after LC freshman
Steve Evans tied the game at 67-67 with a layup of his own which capped a 14-4 run by the Wildcats beginning at the 3:14 mark of the second half.
Â
Evans enjoyed one of the better nights of his career on Thursday, as he finished with a12 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow freshman post player
Raheem Regis was even better, as he finished with new career highs in both points (19) and rebounds (14) on his way to recording his first career double-double for the Wildcats.
Â
LC could not find an answer for Sul Ross' Mychal Pinson, however, as the dynamic guard finished with a game-high 23 points and five assists.
Â
The Wildcats now sit in sixth place in the ASC standings with a 9-11 overall record and a 9-9 mark in conference play. They will have an opportunity to get back to their early season winning ways as they are set to face Howard Payne (4-18 overall, 4-15 in ASC play) on Saturday in Brownwood, TX at 3 p.m.
