Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsIn one of the most exciting back-and-forth matches in the history of Wildcat Stadium, the Louisiana College Wildcats and the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders played to a 2-2 draw after two overtime periods on Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.
After falling behind early 2-0 to the Cru on a goal in the 18
th minute by McKeena Cook and a 21
st minute goal by Ben Hammonds, the Wildcats found themselves in a 2-0 hole at the half.
However, showing the same spirit and resiliency that has become a trademark of the
Prince Borde era at LC, the Wildcats would fight back in the second half to erase the two goal deficit.
And just as they have all season long, the scoring charge was led by LC's star sophomore forward duo of
Pedro Silva and
Rodrigo Neves.
Silva scored LC's first goal of the match in the 60
th minute on an unassisted goal to give the Wildcats some much needed momentum and draw them closer at 2-1.
After
Kevin Mayorga's header in the 56
th minute hit the post and narrowly missed a chance for the Wildcats to tie the match, Neves would score his sixth goal of the season to draw the match even at 2-2.
The final 30 minutes of regulation and 20 total minutes of overtime would belong to LC sophomore goal keeper
Travis Alexander, who played his best match yet in a Wildcat uniform, as he came up with three game-saving stops in the second half and kept the net clear in overtime to secure the draw for the Wildcats in their conference opener.
The Wildcats (4-3-2, 0-0-1) will take their three game unbeaten streak into Saturday's ASC matchup against Concordia University (5-4, 0-1). That match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.Â
