Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsThe Louisiana College Lady Wildcats collected their first win of the 2014 season on Friday afternoon with an impressive 4-2 victory over The Ozarks in Wildcat Stadium.
Â
The Lady Cats were able to build a 2-0 lead at the half and fought off a second half comeback attempt by the Eagles to claim the important conference win.
Â
LC got their first goal on senior Pam Usry's fifth goal of the season in the 31
st minute off an assist from
Zully Maldonado and
Erin Biggs.
Â
Maldonado would then add a goal of her own in the 35
th minute, her second of the season, to put the Lady Cats ahead 2-0.
Â
LC would keep up the pressure to start the second half, as
Erin Biggs headed home a goal in the 51
st minute that deflected off of Maldonado after a corner kick from
Haley Gilmore.
Â
The 3-0 lead after Biggs' goal would mark the largest advantage that LC had held all season long.
Â
Ozarks would show no quit, however, as Mary Eoff, who came out of her normal goal keeper position to play midfield in the second half, sent in a beautiful goal from 30 yards out to draw the Eagles closer at 3-1.
Â
But LC would not let the comeback attempt make it any further, as
Kristine Arceneaux scored her first career goal off an assist from
Jaime Trahan in the 87
th minute to give the Lady Cats a 4-1 lead.
Â
Ozarks would add a final goal in the 88
th minute on a penalty kick from Lia Thomas, despite what appeared to be a clean play by LC keeper
Annette Londono beforehand.
Â
The win could not have come at a better time for LC, as it moved them from last place in the ASC standings all the way up the 7
th. With the top six teams in the standings at the end of the regular season eligible for the ASC Tournament, the Lady Wildcats have kept themselves alive in the hunt for their first postseason appearance in school history.
Â
The Lady Wildcats (1-10, 1-4) will take on #24 Texas-Dallas on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Wildcat Stadium. LC will honor their four seniors (
Anna Champagne, Pam Usry,
Erin Biggs, and
Corey Clampit) prior to the match.Â
