Box Score Box ScoreA last second goal by LeTourneau University on a corner kick with under 20 seconds remaining in regulation gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 win in a hard fought, back-and-forth match on Friday night in Longview, TX.
The match got off to an ideal start for the Lady Wildcats, as they took an early 2-0 lead in the first half.
Freshman Zully Maldanado scored her first career goal in an LC uniform just six minutes into the match off an assist from
Jayme Harmon to give the Lady Cats the early 1-0 lead.Â
Harmon would then record her second helper of the night in the 20th minute when her through ball was handled by senior
Erin Biggs before Biggs found the back of the net to give LC a 2-0 lead and as much early momentum as they have had all season long.Â
But LeTourneau, arguably the nation's most improved team after struggling to a 1-18 season in 2013, would show plenty of fight to close out the first half.Â
Yellow Jacket midfielder Stephanie Vana would answer Biggs' goal in the 24th minute when she dribbled down the middle of the field and scored an impressive unassisted goal to draw LeTourneau closer at 2-1.Â
Angie Patino would then tie the match just before halftime, as she collected a shot that deflected off of LC keeper
Annette Londono and put home the tying goal in the 44th minute to put the match in a 2-2 deadlock at the half.Â
After an inspired defensive effort from the Lady Cats the entire second half appeared to be enough to push the match in overtime, a corner kick by LeTourneau's Raylene Gould was headed in by Kennedy Kerr with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Yellow Jackets the dramatic win.Â
The loss drops LC to 0-9 on the season, 0-3 in ASC play. LeTourneau, the ASC's biggest surprise so far in the 2014 campaign, improves their record to 5-5 overall with a 2-2 record in conference.Â
The Lady Cats will make the short trip from Longview to Tyler, TX on Saturday for a 5 p.m. match against Texas-Tyler.Â
