The Louisiana College men's soccer team continued their recent string of dominant play with a 3-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.
After getting off to a fairly slow start offensively, the Wildcats were able to break through when sophomore
Fellipe Albuquerque was taken down in the box, giving him a penalty kick opportunity which he easily slipped past SAGU keeper Cesar Galvin to give LC a 1-0 lead.
Albuquerque would then strike again less than four minutes later at the 35 minute mark, when he somehow was able to find enough space to send a left footed shot into the corner of the goal for his second score of the game and send LC to the half with a 2-0 lead.
The highlight of the day, however, came when LC's
Renato Neves provided the goal of the year so far for the Wildcats with a beautiful ball from over 20 yards out that found the top corner of the net to bring the game to the eventually 3-0 final.
LC would have to battle through some very physical play, as there were 26 total fouls and six total yellow cards in the match between both teams.
Perhaps the most encouraging performances of the day came from LC's pair of freshman keepers,
Tanner Dubuc and
Travis Alexander, who combined for a shutout and six total saves. Dubuc, in his first action as a Wildcat, had a pair of impressive in the first half.
The Wildcats, now 3-1 on the season, will take on Wiley College at home next Thursday at 7 p.m.
