Box Score
After a dominant preseason exhibition schedule, the Louisiana College men's soccer team got off to a bit of a slow start in their regular season opener, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Berry College Vikings on Friday afternoon in Rome, GA.
Â
The Vikings were able to grab an early 1-0 lead when Zak Wallingford fired a loose ball into the back of the net off an assist from Kyle Fitting.
Â
The Wildcats would get several decent looks from sophomore forward
Fellipe Albuquerque in the first half, but when his last second shot was saved by Viking goalie Logan Hill right before the half, LC found themselves in a 1-0 hole after the first period.
Â
The second half belonged to Berry College, however, as the Vikings rattled off three goals in the first 15 minutes of the period.
Â
Josh Hughes started the scoring off a very nice assist from David Shaw and Grant Cooksey nine minutes in. Kyle Fitting made it 3-0 less than two minutes later when he scored a header off a cross from Josh Hughes.
Â
Caleb Lucas scored the final goal for the Vikings at the 59 minute mark when he found the back of the net off of a through ball from David Shaw to make it 4-0.
Â
The difference proved to be Berry College's ability to get cleaner looks, as the Wildcats had just three shots on goal compared to 14 for the Vikings.
Â
Berry College, who finished last season with an impressive 14-3-2 overall record, proved to be a tough early challenge for
Prince Borde's club, who will face Piedmont College at noon on Saturday as part of the Winshape Invitational.
