Louisiana College dropped their first game on the ASC Softball Tournament on Thursday morning in Farmer's Branch, TX to Mary Hardin-Baylor 4-2 before downing Concordia 3-1 in Thursday night's elimination game.
LC got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning against UMHB with an RBI single from
Courtney Ivey that scored
Meagan Pearson.
Caitlin Bollier then tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single before she busted the game open in the sixth inning with a three-run home run to give the Crusaders a 4-1 advantage.
LC outfielder
Emorie Nugent drove in
Jade Johnson on a fielder's choice in the top of the seventh inning, but it was not enough as UMHB took the opening game 4-2. LC senior pitcher
Leslie Eastham took the loss to move to 10-6 on the year while UMHB reliever Halle Sabo picked up the win after giving up just one hit and no runs in 1.2 innings of relief work to move to 6-6.
Eastham would get some vindication just a few hours later in the day, as she tossed a complete game and gave up just one run while striking out four to lead LC to a 3-1 win in an elimination game against Concordia.
The Lady Wildcats jumped out to another 1-0 lead early when
Sandra Ouchley scored in the bottom of the second after Concordia pitcher Kat Moreno threw the ball away on a comebacker off the bat of
Marquita Boulden.
LC third baseman
Laura Gulotta-Parrish then extended the Lady Wildcat's lead with a two-run single in the fourth inning, scoring
Jessica Taylor and
Courtney Ivey.
Concordia would score in the sixth inning off back-to-back doubles from Katie Carrizales and Jessica Parish to make the score 3-1, but Eastham would settle in from there to shut down the Tornados bats and pick up her 11
th win of the season.
With Thursday's split, LC (25-14, 14-11) will play the loser of Thursday night's Texas Lutheran – East Texas Baptist game in what will be another elimination game for the Lady Wildcats beginning at 10 a.m.
