A seven run seventh inning for the Louisiana College softball team capped a tremendous late comeback to give the Lady Wildcats a 12-10 extra inning win over rival Mississippi College on Tuesday night in Clinton, MS.
Down 7-3 going into the top of the seventh, the Lady Wildcats scored seven runs on three hits, led by
Meagan Pearson's two-out grand slam to left center field.
MC would score three seventh inning runs to tie the game 10-10 and force extra innings, but a two RBI single by
Stephanie Jaeger in the Lady Cats' half of the eighth inning would give LC the lead for good, 12-10.
Nancy Bunting picked up the win in game one, throwing two scoreless innings in relief.
The Lady Wildcats were led at the plate by Pearson, who went 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Jaeger finished 3-for-6 with 3 RBI and a run scored.
LC dropped the second game of the doubleheader 11-2, as a five run first inning by the Choctaws was too much to overcome for the Lady Cats, who moved to 7-2 (1-1 in ASC play) on the season with the doubleheader split.
The Lady Wildcats will be on the road again this weekend when they take on Austin College Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
