The Louisiana College softball team had a successful first day at the annual ASC First Pitch Tournament, picking up a pair of wins over Concordia and Texas Lutheran, both ending in 5-4 final scores.

In game one, pitcher Nancy Bunting picked up her first career win, pitching 1.1 innings in relief of starter Leslie Eastham. Eastham threw 5.2 innings, giving up nine hits and four earned runs. Bunting did not give up an earned run and walked only one in her relief outing.

Meggie Burkett continued her fast start to the 2013 season, going 2-3 at the plate and scoring a run.

Courtney Ivey led the Lady Wildcats at the plate in game one, going 2-3 with a run scored and three RBI.

Bunting would again pick up the win in game two against Texas Lutheran, going two innings and giving up two earned runs in relief of freshman Madison Vige.

Vige, the reigning ASC East Pitcher of the Week, had a nice start for LC, giving up two earned runs and giving up six hits over five innings of work.

Meagan Pearson got the Lady Cats off to a fast start, as her first inning two-run opposite field home run gave LC an early cushion.

TLU would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning after a Taylor Yancy sacrifice fly to right field scored Estes.

LC would answer back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, however, as Pearson led off with a double and scored on a Candice Biggs double two batters later. Emorie Nugent and Hannah Cobb would add an RBI each to give Bunting a 5-3 lead going into the seventh.

Bunting was able to hold the lead, extending LC's record winning streak in the tournament to 37 games.
