Knowing that Thursday night's game against The Ozarks was a must-win scenario, the Louisiana College men's basketball team responded with a huge 77-67 victory over the Eagles.
As he has done so many times in the second half of the season, freshman point guard
Kevin Cottonham came up with a big-time clutch performance.
The Jonesboro-Hodge product scored a game-high 26 points, including four three-pointers, to go along with four rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Senior
Derrick Gardner, despite only scoring four points, made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball, grabbing 12 rebounds (nine defensive, three offensive) and blocking three shots.
Senior
Danny Sumner (13 points) and freshman
Anthony Gaines, Jr. (15 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals) also hit double-digits in scoring for the Wildcats.
It was just the second road win of the season for the Wildcats, as they move to 7-10 overall. More importantly, LC is now 7-8 in ASC play, which puts them only ½ game behind LeTourneau for fourth place and the final ASC Tournament spot from the East Division.
The Wildcats will have a chance to pick up a huge win on Saturday, as they travel to Texas for a 3 p.m. matchup against perennial ASC East powerhouse UT-Dallas, led by ASC East Preseason Player of the Year Kyle Schleigh. LC upset the Comets at home 67-65 in the H.O. West Fieldhouse just two weeks ago.
