MARSHALL, TX - East Texas Baptist had no answer for Louisiana College's Anthony Gaines, Jr. on Thursday night in Marshall, TX, as the sophomore forward was nearly perfect from the field in leading the Wildcats to an 89-78 win over the Tigers in American Soutthwest Conference play.
 
Gaines, Jr., who scored 21 points in just 24 minutes in LC's previous game against Concordia, went 13-16 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line on his way to a 35 point, 10 rebound night.
 
Kevin Cottonham (15 points) and Kevin Lewis (12 points) joined Gaines, Jr. in double figures as the Wildcats shot 52.4% (33-63) from the field to pull away from the Tigers.
 
The Wildcats managed to play extremely clean basketball in both halves, as they turned the ball over just 10 times on the night.
 
The win keeps the Wildcats on top of the ASC standings, as they stand at 2-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. They will take on LeTourneau on Saturday in Longview, TX in a game scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
