Box Score
The greatest season in Louisiana College soccer history came to a close on Friday afternoon in Abilene, TX, as the Wildcats lost a 3-2 decision in overtime to Hardin-Simmons in the American Southwest Conference Tournament semi-final.
The Cowboys, the tournament host and #1 seed, came out strong, taking 15 shots to just one for Louisiana College in the first half.
This helped HSU get out to a 1-0 lead at the half, the lone score coming in the 16
th minute when Dillon Parkhill headed a ball into the box that was finished off by Colyn Moore for Moore's eighth goal of the season.
The Cowboys would take a 2-0 advantage in the 60
th minute as Dustin Beal scored in the box off of a corner kick from Kevin McNeal.
However, just as they have done all season long, the Wildcats were able to respond to adversity, and came storming back, knocking home two goals over the two minute stretch that followed McNeal's goal.
Senior
Phillip Borde scored the first just 24 seconds after McNeal was able to give the Cowboys a two goal advantage, as he broke free and scored on a one-on-one opportunity with HSU keeper Michael Vargas.
Just over a minute later,
Fellipe Albuquerque, the hero of Thursday night's quarterfinal win over ETBU, scored on a long ball from the right corner that found the net and tied the match 2-2. Both teams held tough defensively over the next 29 minutes of regulation to force overtime.
McNeal, who helped HSU build their 2-0 lead earlier in the match, took the lone shot of the overtime period, which found the back of the net past LC keeper
Travis Alexander to give the Cowboys the 3-2 win and punch their ticket to the 2013 ASC Championship match.
For the Wildcats, who finished the season at 10-9-1, it marked the end of the program's most successful season to date, as LC set new school records for wins (10) and goals (38) in a season, as well as marking the first time they have ever reached postseason play.
