Box Score
After pulling off a thrilling, last second, 59-57 victory over Texas Lutheran just two days before, the Louisiana College Wildcats took the floor on Saturday against Schreiner looking to make a statement that they were a serious contender for an ASC tournament birth.
That statement was made emphatically as the Wildcats scored a season-high 94 points on their way to a 94-82 victory over the Mountaineers.
Freshman
Kevin Cottonham, who has started at point guard in each of LC's back-to-back home wins, followed up his outstanding clutch performance against Texas Lutheran with his most complete game yet in a Wildcat uniform.
The Jonesboro Hodge product set new career highs in points (18), rebounds (5), and assists (8) in leading the Wildcats to the 12 point victory, which proved to be the most complete game of the season for
Gene Rushing's squad.
Romanaski Williams was LC's much needed answer in the post, as the senior from Bunkie, La. went 7-13 from the field to finish with 17 points (10 of which came in the 1
st half) and 6 rebounds.
Freshman
Anthony Gaines, Jr. tied Cottonham for a game-high 18 points (5-8 shooting from the field, 8-11 from the free throw line) to go along with 5 rebounds.
Seniors
Derrick Gardner and
Edward Atkins provided the defensive spark the Wildcats needed as Gardner finished with a game-high 3 blocks while Atkins led the way with 3 steals.
Despite a slow start to the year, the Wildcats have rallied to bring their ASC record to 3-4, 3-6 overall, which places them 4
th in the ASC East standings. The win over Schreiner puts them in position to move up to third with a win over Mississippi College, the current ASC East third place team, on Tuesday.
