In a wild game that saw 38 total fouls, six yellow cards, and an ejection, the
Prince Borde's LC Wildcats found themselves on the losing end of a 2-1 score.
The opening 20 seconds of the game would set the stage for one of the most hectic and exciting home matches in recent memory for the Wildcat soccer team.
With just 19 seconds ticked off the clock, the Pilots' Jose Cordova broke free to put LSU-S up 1-0. That "blink-and-you-miss-it" goal was hardly the last oddity in this contest.
With the Pilots and Wildcats racking up 21 and 17 fouls in the match, respectively, it seemed as if every challenged ball drew a whistle. One that did not draw a foul was a goal drilled home by Peter McClean 32 minutes into the first half. The goal was set up by a beautiful assist from
Raffi Ferreira. That tied the game at the half and set the stage for an exciting, yet dissappointing finish for the Wildcats.
Despite an outstanding and inspired effort all night, LC was unable to keep LSU-S off the scoreboard in the second half when Nikkle Collymore snuck a goal past Wildcat keeper
Jade Tomeny, who was making his first career start.
LC would have a few great looks to tie the game in the second half, but narrow misses from
Raphael Silveira and
James Cox left Wildcats down by a score late in the contest.
With the Wildcats looking to tie the game late, a controversial, clock-draining discussion (in which time was never officially stopped) over a foul was followed by a red card issued to Peter McClean. This squandered an opportunity for LC to tie to the game as the Pilots were able to dribble the remaining minute off the clock.
Despite the loss, the Wilcats still find themselves above .500 in the standings with a 3-2-0 record and will get seven days off before Hardin-Simmons comes to Pineville on September 20 at 7 p.m.
