SHREVEPORT, La. – The Louisiana College softball team completed a season sweep of in-state opponent Centenary Thursday, defeating the Ladies 1-0 and 12-2 in a doubleheader.
Louisiana College (21-5) scored a run in the first inning of Game 1 then held on for seven innings for the win.
Junior shortstop
Daniele Wilson (Destrehan, La./Archbishop Chappelle HS) delivered the game-winning RBI, one that scored leadoff batter
Meggie Burkett (West Monroe, La./West Ouachita HS) who had reached on a single.
Junior pitcher
Jordan Waldroup (Calhoun, La./West Ouachita HS) improved to 6-3 on the year after spreading around nine hits and registering the shutout.
In the second game, the Lady Cats five runs over the first two innings and never looked back, registering their 21st win of the year on the mercy rule.
Freshman pitcher
Tori Davis (West Monroe, La./West Ouachita HS) got the win and improved to 5-0 on the year after striking out one in four innings of work.
Offensively, Louisiana College was paced by senior third baseman
Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan HS), who went a combined 4-for-5 with a homerun, a double, three runs scored and four RBI.
Greene was one of two Lady Cats to homer on the day. Sophomore catcher
Chesney Welch (Prospect, La./Grant HS) connected on a three-run homerun in Game 2.
Burkett finished the doubleheader 4-for-7 with a triple and four runs scored. Wilson went a combined 3-for-6 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored.
Centenary (1-23) was led by Kalyn Harris, who went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Sierra Bailey was the losing pitcher in both games.
LC returns to action April 11 with a visit to American Southwest Conference East Division rival Texas-Tyler.
