FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Lady Cats will have to settle for second in the American Southwest Conference this season. The Louisiana College softball team fell 1-0 to Texas-Tyler in the ASC Championship game Saturday afternoon.

Louisiana College (28-13), making its second appearance in the ASC Championship game in the past three years, would have needed to defeat the Patriots (36-7) twice Saturday afternoon to claim the crown in the double-elimination tournament.

Texas-Tyler, the only team to defeat LC in the conference tournament, receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III softball tournament and will host a regional in two weeks.

Louisiana College is in a good position to receive an at-large bid but will have to wait until May 7 at 9 a.m., the date and time of the NCAA Division III Softball Selection Show, to learn if they will make their ninth straight NCAA tournament.

Saturday afternoon, the Lady Cats got a great pitching performance from sophomore Rudi Aycock (Olla, La./LaSalle HS).
Aycock, who fell to 6-4, worked a complete game and surrendered just four hits and walked no one while striking out one.

An RBI groundout by Ashlee Johnson was the difference in the game.

Texas-Tyler's Heather Abshire picked up the win after working seven innings and striking out one and allowing five hits.

Emily Douglas (Gonzales, La./St. Amant HS) was LC's top batter with a 2-for-2 showing at the plate.
