RICHARDSON, Texas – The Louisiana College softball team had a rough go of it in the first two of their four-game series with Texas Dallas, falling to the Comets 5-2 and 3-2 Friday night.
LC (24-10, 13-9 American Southwest Conference East) entered the night in second place in the ASC East. They exit needing to split with the Comets (23-13, 11-11 ASC East) on Saturday to guarantee their place in the ASC Championship tournament.
Even with losses, several tiebreaker possibilities could land the Lady Cats in the tournament or leave LC out of the group of three ASC East teams that will be present in the conference tournament next week.
The two teams will wrap up their series, and the regular season Saturday at 1 p.m.
Friday, the Lady Cats struggled to produce runs and committed six total errors, three in each contest, as the Comets scored runs in key moments.
Heather Foust (16-4) pitched all 14 innings for UTD and struck out a combined eight Lady Cats en route to back-to-back wins.
Leslie Eastham (8-4) took the loss for LC in Game 1 and
Rudi Aycock (5-3) was the losing pitcher in Game 2.
Stephanie Jaeger and
Laura Gulotta-Parrish were LC's top offensive performers. Jaeger went a combined 3-for-6 with a run scored and two steals while Gulotta-Parrish went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Hannah Creech paced the Comets with 4-for-8 showing at the plate and a run scored.
