FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Louisiana College softball team got two wins on the first day of the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament. The Lady Cats (5-1) defeated Schreiner 4-1 in the early game then came from behind to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor 6-4 in late contest.
In the late game, LC fell behind 4-0 in the first inning after surrendering a homerun and allowing a second run to score on an illegal pitch.
“We fell behind pretty quick,” first year coach
Mark Rosier said, “but it's a credit to these girls. They hung in there, battled and battled and battled and eventually came back to win. We hit the ball hard all day. At first it was right at them but eventually things started to fall.”
Two balls fell well past the outfield wall.
Daniele Wilson (Destrehan, La./Archbishop Chappelle) and
Meagan Pearson (Frierson, La./North DeSoto HS) each hit a homerun in the comeback.
Pearson finished 4-for-4 with two RBI in that contest with
Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan HS) going 3-for-4 with a double and
Meggie Burkett (West Monroe, La./West Ouachita HS) going 2-for-4.
Leslie Eastham (Baton Rouge, La./Woodlawn HS) was the winning pitcher in the late game, going all seven innings and striking out three.
In the early game,
Chelsea Allen (Houma, La./Vandebilt Catholic) was the top batter going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jordan Waldroup (Calhoun, La.West Ouachita HS) was the winning pitcher with a complete game. She struck out three while allowing five hits.
LC concludes its trip to the First Pitch Tournament Saturday with games against Southwestern (Texas) and Hardin-Simmons.
