Fellipe Albuquerque scored two goals on penalty kicks to bring his season total to 10

Wildcats fight back to tie ETBU 3-3 in 2 Overtimes

10/5/2012 1:35:00 AM

For the second time in three contests, the Louisiana College men's soccer team walked away with a draw, as they tied East Texas Baptist 3-3 after 2 overtime periods on Thursday night.

Freshman James Cox scored the first goal of his young career 25 minutes into the match to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0. Three straight goals by the Tigers followed Cox's goal to put them ahead 3-1 and it looked as though the Wildcats would drop their third ASC contest of the season.

However, the Wildcats showed tremendous character and effort to claw their way back, as Fellipe Albuquerque was taken down in the box and followed that by banging in a penalty kick to make it 3-2.

ETBU keeper's was red carded on the play for the take down, which left both players on the ground in pain.

Another penalty kick by Albuquerque just three minutes later, his 10th goal of the season, tied the match at 3, and LC was able to hold on from there to get to overtime.

A Raphael Silveira shot attempt very late in the first overtime period that would have given LC the win, missed just inches high.

The Wildcats were unable to score through the rest of overtime play, and ended with a 3-3 draw.

It was one of the better offensive performances of the year for Prince Borde's club, as they rattled off 22 shots, 11 shots on goal, compared to 16 for ETBU.

Freshman Randy Richard was solid in the goal, as he had five saves, one of them in spectacular fashion on a Pete Fitzsimmons laser late in regulation which would have given the Tigers the win.

LC is now 5-3-2 on the year, 2-2-2 in ASC play, leaving them in good position to make the conference tournament. They will take on LeTourneau at 6 p.m. on October 12th in Longview, Tx.
