Coming off two heart breaking losses over the weekend, the Louisiana College men's soccer team was still in pursuit of history on Tuesday night, as they looked to become the first team in school history to finish with a winning record.
After 90 minutes of regulation and an overtime period, however, the Wildcats fell just short of that mark, falling 2-1 to Centenary in Shreveport.
After a scoreless first half, Centenary was able to get on the board within the first minute of the second half, as Zachary Kidder knocked a shot off the post and into the net to give the Gents a 1-0 lead.
Caio Sousa would answer, however, as the junior continued his tremendous play throughout the latter part of the season with a goal in the 57
th minute, assisted by
Tulio Glasner.
It was Sousa's 8
th goal of the season, second on the team to
Fellipe Albuquerque.
The Wildcats defense would hold that score of 1-1 throughout the rest of regulation, pushing the match to overtime.
Spencer Nickerson would end the game in overtime, however, as his goal in the second minute of overtime was the finishing touch on the Gents' 2-1 victory.
It was the final time that seniors Peter McClean,
James Knight,
Claudy St. Louis,
Tulio Glasner, and
Zack Breland stepped on the field in the blue and orange.
The Wildcats finished just short of making the American Southwest Tournament with a 7-8-2 overall record, which is still the most successful season in program history.
