While the Louisiana College women's soccer team will be certainly be quite emotional when their season comes to an end on Tuesday, after their past week of marathon matches, their legs will certainly be thankful.
Saturday's double overtime match against the Ozarks on Saturday marked the third time in the last four matches that
Bruce Deaton's squad has gone into two overtime periods.
Following two draws in their previous double overtime affairs against Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Lady Wildcats were able to take home a hard fought 2-1 victory against the Ozarks.
The Lady Wildcats fell behind at the half 1-0 after a Haley Gilliam goal in 33
rd minute.
However, an outstanding effort in the second half, led by a
Sara Smith goal in the 69
th minute off an assist from
Kelley Clancey, pulled LC into a 1-1 deadlock after regulation.
In overtime,
Anna Champagne knocked home a free kick, something she has been so close to do so many times this season, in the 102
nd minute to give LC the lead for good 2-1.
It was the first overtime win for the women's soccer program in recent memory, and boosted their season record to 5-10-2, one win shy of tying the school record.
The Lady Wildcats will have a chance to tie that wins record on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. match in their season finale against Centenary in Shreveport.
