Breaux named ASC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

10/23/2012 1:28:00 PM

For the second time this season, Louisiana College goal keeper Emily Breaux has been named American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The ASC's all-time saves leader and most decorated player in program history, Breaux will look to close our her stellar career with two big ASC wins, beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. against UT-Dallas and carrying over to Saturday with another big contest against the University of the Ozarks at 1 p.m.

Those games will be played in Richardson, Tx. and Clarksville, Ar., respectively.

Breaux's career saves total of over 850 certainly puts her in a class of her own, but it has been her leadership throughout the season that has been most recognized by her peers. That leadership has helped lead the Lady Wildcats to one of the most successful seasons in program history.

The Lafayette, La. native garnered the weekly award after an outstanding week that included two double overtime games, which amounted to 220 total minutes of soccer. In those 220 minutes, Breaux gave up only one goal, which came on a penalty kick against Mary Hardin-Baylor after a controversial call against LC for handling the ball.

The senior recorded 21 saves during those two games (10 against Concordia, 11 against Mary Hardin-Baylor) against 22 shots on goal.

Breaux's shut out against Concordia on Thursday in a 0-0 draw marked her fifth of the season, which is also a new school record.
