Saturday Quick Facts

Louisiana College Wildcats vs. Sul Ross State Lobos
Jackson Field. Alpine, Texas
Start time: 1 p.m. CST
SRSU Record: 3-3 (2-1 in American Southwest Conference)
Louisiana College Record: 4-2 (2-1 in American Southwest Conference)

Louisiana College and Sul Ross are currently tied for third in the ASC at 2-1, behind Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin-Simmins, who both sit at 3-0. A win for either team puts them in contention for a potential NCAA Division 3 playoff spot.

Sul Ross Running Back Dominique Carson is early candidate for ASC player of the week, and currently sits at or near the top of many national player of the year and All-American lists. Currently, he ranks:

  • 1st in the ASC (3rd nationally) in rushing yards per game at 170.2
  • 1st in the ASC (1st nationally) in points per game at 21.0
  • 1st in the ASC (1st nationally) in all-purpose yards per game at 306.0

Lobos Quarterback A.J. Springer is also one of the nation's best so far in 2012. He also sees his name near the top of many ASC and NCAA statistical categories, including:

  • 311.5 passing yards per game (2nd in the ASC, 13th nationally)
  • 25.67 points per game responsible for (1st in the ASC, 2nd nationally)
  • 352.5 total offensive yards per game (1st in the ASC, 5th nationally)
  • 181.09 Passing Efficiency (2nd in the ASC, 7th nationally)

Carson and Springer help lead the Lobos offense, which is currently the best in the country. Sul Ross has put up eye-popping offensive numbers so far, which will remind many of the Ben McLaughlin led Louisiana College offense from 2010:

  • #1 in the ASC (#1 nationally) in Total Offense at 574.0 yards per game
  • #1 in the ASC (#3 nationally) in Scoring Offense at 52.33 points per game
  • #2 in the ASC (#24 nationally) in Rushing Offense at 241.83 yards per game
  • #2 in the ASC (#11 nationally) in Passing Offense at 332.17 yards per game

On the opposite side of the ball, LC comes into the game with one of the nation's premier defenses that ranks:

  • #1 in the ASC in Scoring Defense at 17.8 points per game
  • #1 in the ASC in Total Defense at 275.7 yards per game
  • #1 in the ASC in Passing Defense at 140.5 yards per game
  • #3 in the ASC in Rushing Defense at 135.2 yards per game
