The Cinderella season continues for the Louisiana College men's soccer team, as they kept their dream of making their first ever American Southwest Conference Tournament appearance alive after a 1-0 victory against Concordia Thursday night.
With LC and Concordia locked up in a defensive duel for most of the contest, junior
Caio Sousa was able to break free in the 67
th minute and send home the game-winning goal off an assist from
Raphael Silveira.
It was Sousa's sixth goal of the season, and the second time in the last three matches that he has driven home the game winning goal late in the second half of a 1-0 contest. The other came in a 1-0 victory Friday night against LeTourneau.
Freshman keeper
Randy Richard was outstanding yet again, recording his second shutout in six days.
One aspect that head coach
Prince Borde was extremely pleased with was his team's ability to shut down scoring opportunities off of corner kicks, as the Tornadoes were 0-6 in that department during the match, much of that credited to outstanding play, once again, from senior defenders Peter McClean and
Claudy St. Louis.
The Wildcats remain all alone in sixth place in the ASC standings after the win, now 4-3-2 in ASC games, 7-4-2 overall. They will have an extremely tough test this Saturday as Mary Hardin-Baylor, the #3 in the ASC with a 7-1-1 record, will be coming to Pineville for a 3 p.m. conference match.
