There are very few events that can take place over the course of one-tenth of a second. In the case of Saturday's top 25 ASC matchup between #21 Louisiana College and #2 Mary Hardin-Baylor, it's was more than enough time for UMHB to all but steal the Wildcats' momentum and eventually walk away from Pineville with a 27 point victory.
Nearing the end of the 1st half, with the Wildcats leading 3-0 and sitting at the Cru's 5 yard line after Jamie Bunting scrambled for 2 yards on third and goal, Adan Olivares lined up a 22 yard field goal with just 0.01 seconds left showing on the clock.
One-tenth of a second, and a 95 yard blocked field goal return by All-American UMHB linebacker Javicz Jones later, the Cru changed the course of momentum that the Wildcats had worked so hard to control the entire first half.
They never looked back from there, as they rattled off 24 unanswered second half points to walk away with a 30-3 victory.
After holding UMHB, the nation's 4th leading rushing team at over 300 yards per game, to only 68 first half rushing yards, the Cru came out firing after halftime.
Quarterback LiDarral Bailey, the ASC's most efficient passer, hit receiver Geoff Myles in stride on the first play of the second half for a 64 yard touchdown to put UMHB up 13-3 only 15 seconds after intermission.
Bailey would go on to throw for three more second half touchdowns.
The series of events at the end of the first half and afterwards negated a tremendous first half performance from the Wildcats, highlighted by the defense's rattling of LiDarral Bailey and Bunting playing perhaps his finest half of football all season against one of the nation's top defensive fronts.
Bunting finished the game 26-46 for 258 yards, 140 of those coming in the first half of play. Ryan Montague was unable to tie the school record for single-season 100 yard games, as he ran the ball 16 times for 41 yards against the ASC's top ranked run defense.
Linebacker Phil Ford had another outstanding game on defense, adding to school sack record with 8 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.
LC will now make the long road trip to Alpine, TX to face one of the nation's most potent offenses in Sul Ross State, who boasts the early candidate for ASC Offensive Player of the Year, Dominique Carson.
The Wildcats and Lobos kick off on Saturday October 20 at 1 p.m.
