ABILENE, Texas - After several tough weeks, the Louisiana College men's soccer team ended an eight-game winless skid Friday night with a come-from-behind, 2-1 victory over American Southwest Conference opponenent McMurry.
LC (2-6-1, 1-2-1 ASC), which had not won a game since opening night versus Millsaps, trailed 1-0 at the half but rebounded with two goals in the second half to secure the win.
"It was a very important match," first-year LC coach
Prince Borde said. "This was our first win in conference, which hasn't happened in quite some time (since 2009). If we can somehow start to muster a few of these wins together we might be able to build some momentum."
McMurry's Sheharyar Khan scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute to give the War Hawks an early lead
Early in the second half,
Vinny Torres scored on an assist from
Nic Philpot to even the score.
In the 56th minute,
Raffi Ferreira scored an unassisted goal to put the Wildcats on top for good.
"Everyone showed a lot of resiliency today," Borde said. "In the second half we were able to keep heavy pressure on them and keep the ball in their half of the field. There were still some mistakes on our part, but we will take the win. It was an improvement and a definite step in the right direction."
Next up for LC is a Saturday showdown with Hardin-Simmons, the second half of a two-game conference road trip.
