PINEVILLE, La. – Louisiana College produced one of its best all-time performances Saturday night at home, drumming Millsaps 56-0 in non-conference action.

It was the second most lopsided win in LC history, second only to a 60-0 win over Southwest Assemblies of God in 2000, the year football was reinstated at Louisiana College.

"Since this past Spring, the defense has had a chip on its shoulder," LC Coach Dennis Dunn said. "They practice fast and have a lot of experience over there. For them to come out and play like they've played the first two games is pretty amazing."

It was the first shutout win for the Wildcats (2-0) since a 26-0 win over Sul Ross in 2009.

The Louisiana College defense could do no wrong Saturday. The Wildcats forced Millsaps (1-2) into five turnovers and held the Majors to 190 yards of total offense.

Millsaps was able to accrue just 93 yards rushing, 34 of which came against the LC reserves in the fourth quarter.

Preseason All-American linebacker Nate Janzen, a junior from Pottsboro, Texas, posted a team-high 5.5 tackles and added a third-quarter interception, one which he returned 44 yards to the Millsaps 10.

“I guess I was just in the right place at the right time," Janzen said. "I wish I could have taken it in all the way. I guess it wasn't meant to be.”

As a member of the LC offense's jumbo package on offense, Janzen also added two touchdowns on the night, one rushing and one receiving.

The Wildcat offense was as potent as the defense was stingy with Louisiana College amassing 597 yards of total offense, 355 through the air and 242 on the ground.

The running back trio of Daron Bartholomew, Ryan Montague and Robert Williams combined for 189 yards on 27 carries with Williams leading the team with 86 yards on 11 carries. Montague was good for 68 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and Bartholomew 35 yards on six carries.

LC quarterback Jamie Bunting completed 21-of-32 passes for 276 yards and four touchdowns. He was intercepted twice.

"I think we picked it up in the second half," Bunting said. "We just ran smarter plays, smart decision making for me and my colleagues. The running game is big for us right now. It's something you've just gotta do because if you can't run the ball, you can't throw the ball."

Bunting's favorite target on the night was senior, and preseason All-American, Darnell Williams, who caught six passes for 109 yards, including a crowd-thrilling 70-yard completion in the third quarter.

Bunting, who completed the touchdown pass to Janzen, also hit pay dirt with a 46-yard completion to senior Justin Usey and a 27-yard completion to senior wide receiver Dayne Reeves.

Backup quarterback Tim Curry, who was given the reigns for several s series throughout the game, completed 4-of-6 passes for 79 yards with one touchdown rushing and a 39-yard touchdown pass to Jerome Wright. Curry was intercepted once in the contest.

LC will have little time to enjoy its victory. The Wildcats open American Southwest Conference play next Saturday with a home game against rival Mississippi College. That contest will kickoff at 6 p.m.

"It's going to be exciting," Dunn said. "It'll be a great night for college football and when these two teams match up, anything can happen. It should be a lot of fun."
