Box Score
PINEVILLE, La. - The Louisiana College women's soccer team remained winless after Thursday night's 3-1 loss to Ozarks in the American Southwest Conference opener for both teams, but the improvements for the Lady Cats from 2010 to 2011 continue to be evidenced in the onfield play each match.
Thurday night, just 5:57 into the contest, freshman forward
Erin Biggs fed the ball through to fellow freshman
Sara Smith who scored a goal.
It was a single goal but it was one of the most important goals the Lady Cats have scored in the last two seasons.
Just five games into the 2011 campaign, Smith's goal - the second of the year for the Texarkana, Texas, native - marked the third goal of the season for Louisiana College. In all of 2010, LC found the back of the net just twice.
The goal also gave LC a halftime lead for the first time since 2009.
And, though Ozarks was able to score a trio of goals in the second half to secure the win, the Lady Cats were never out of reach in the contest.
Freshman goalie
Danielle Paulsen, playing in place of injured all-conference performer
Emily Breaux, had six saves in the game, one in which LC limited Ozarks to just nine shots on goal.
Next up for LC with be a Friday conference home match against Texas Dallas. That contest will begin at 5 p.m.
