CLINTON, Miss. – The Lady Wildcats suffered their first sweep of the season and fell to 1-3 on the year versus Mississippi College with losses of 10-0 and 6-5 to the Lady Choctaws in American Southwest Conference East Division play Tuesday evening.

The day was disappointing to different extremes for LC (26-6, 13-5 ASC East). The Lady Choctaws (19-7, 7-5 ASC East) won via the mercy rule in Game 1 and in extra innings in Game 2.

The first contest was a wash for Louisiana College, which scored no runs and allowed 10 to cross the plate in just five innings.

In the second contest, the Lady Cat bats came alive but Mississippi College managed to take the win on a walk-off RBI single by Kathleen Pulliam in the eighth inning.

Kim Mason (5-2) was the winning pitcher in both contests, pitching all five innings of Game 1 and the last 2.2 in Game 2.

Rene' Schwartzenburg (14-2) and Kelly Williams (7-4) were the respective losing pitchers.

Offensively, LC's standouts were somewhat limited.

Brittany Menard was the only multiple-hit player in the Game 1, going 2-for-3.

In the second contest, Amber Thomas went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a home run while Carli Wheeler went 3-for-4.

Sarah Smaltz was the top batter for Mississippi College in the first contest with a 2-for-3, two-RBI showing. In Game 2, the Lady Choctaws were led by Brooke Smitherman (3-for-4, one RBI) and Jennifer Jones (2-for-2, one RBI).

Louisiana College returns to action this Saturday at noon with a doubleheader against Texas Dallas.
