RICHARDSON, Texas - The Louisiana College softball team suffered a loss in its American Southwest Conference East Division opener and split a doubleheader with Texas Dallas, dropping a 6-2 decision to the Comets in Game 1 and downing UTD 6-0 in Game 2.
In the first game, the Comets (9-5, 1-1 ASC East) jumped on LC starting pitcher
Kelly Williams, who fell to 4-1 on the season after pitching six innings, striking out three, walking three and allowing eight hits and five earned runs.
Texas Dallas starter Heather Foust (5-2) got the win, pitching seven innings and striking out seven.
LC managed six hits in the first contest but only plated a pair of runs.
Senior catcher
Amber Thomas went 2-for-3, sophomore center fielder
Brittany Menard 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Aprill Fryar 1-for-3 with a run scored.
In the second half of the doubleheader, LC had no trouble dispatching the Comets as senior All-American
Rene' Schwartzenburg (4-0) pitched a complete-game two-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk.
Allysa Fincher took the loss in the second game, one in which Thomas delivered a three-run home run,
Kelsey Brown a solo home run and a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, Menard a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored and
Leslie Eastham a 2-for-4 showing.
LC returns to action Thursday afternoon with a visit to ASC East foe LeTournau for a doubleheader that will begin at 2 p.m.
