TYLER, Texas - Louisiana College Softball's visit to No. 14 Texas-Tyler for an American Southwest Conference East Division doubleheader was neither as good or as bad as it could have been. The Lady Cats, currently ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division III, split with the Patriots, 8-5 and 5-9.
LC (18-3, 7-3 ASC East) took the first game thanks to a big bat from one of the smaller players on the team and another assault on the record books by the staff ace.
Freshman second baseman
Stephanie Jaeger (Haughton, La./Haughton HS), who stands just 5-foot, went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, a three-RBI double, a run scored and five RBI to pace the LC offense while senior pitcher
Rene' Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) got her 10th win on the year and pulled tied the LC record for most career victories after a hurling a complete game and striking out five.
Schwartzenburg (10-1) now has 67 career wins, the number former LC All-American Sandi Clark had from 2003-06.
Beyond Jaeger, several other Lady Cats had great showings at the plate in the first contest.
Third baseman
Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan HS) and freshman first baseman
Kaylee Guidry (Walker, La./Walker HS) each went 3-for-4 while designated player
Emily Douglas (Gonzalez, La./St. Amant HS/Nicholls State) went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Katelyn Thomason (9-2) took the loss for the Patriots (19-3, 7-1 ASC East) in the first game.
In the second game, the Lady Cats were still solid at the plate, putting up five runs on 11 hits, but the Texas-Tyler was better and scored nine runs on seven hits.

Whitney Wyly was Texas-Tyler's top performer in the second contest, going 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and three RBI.
Kelly Williams (West Monroe, La./St. Thomas More) too the loss for the Lady Cats and fell to 6-3 on the season.
M'Lynn Tillery (5-0) got the win for the Patriots with Thomason (1) getting the save.
LC returns to action Friday night with a home non-conference doubleheader against Chapman.
