Game 2 Box Score
PINEVILLE, La. – Louisiana College senior pitcher
Rene' Schwartzenburg, already an All-American twice over, has nothing left to prove on the diamond, but her performance Tuesday afternoon versus LeTourneau was something to file away in the “Best of Schwartzenburg” file.
Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) pitched the first 10 innings of the American Southwest Conference doubleheader, allowed just two combined hits, struck out 11 and secured both wins in 8-0 and 6-0 victories for the Lady Wildcats.
In the process, the right-hander recorded her 550th career strikeout and pulled within six of the school record of 556 currently held by former All-American Sandi Clark, now Sandi Clark Webb, who pitched at LC from 2003-06.
Only Christin Mickelboro (Game 1) and Ashley McPhail (Game 2) managed to get a hit off of Schwartzenburg.
Game 1 featured not only a dominant showing by Schwartzenburg, who struck out seven while walking just one in a game that was shortened from seven to five innings due to the mercy rule.
The Lady Wildcats scored eight runs on seven hits in that contest with
Kelsey Brown (Rayne, La./Notre Dame Crowley HS/Hinds CC) going 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBI, most of that coming on a three-run home run.
April Fryar (Lake Charles, La./Barbe HS/McNeese State) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and
Emily Douglas (Gonzalez,La./St. Amant HS/Nicholls State) 1-for-2 with an RBI double.
Douglas, the Lady Cats' designated hitter in both contests, was actually the most consistent performer for the LC offense across both contests, adding a 2-for-3 outing in the second contest.
In the Game 2, Schwartzenburg struck out four in five innings of work. Fellow senior
Kelly Williams (West Monroe, La./St. Thomas More HS) pitched the last two innings for the Lady Cats.
Offensively, LC scored its six runs on 11 hits while committing no errors.
Freshman second baseman
Stephanie Jaeger (Haughton, La./Haughton HS) went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI to lead the LC offense in the late game.
Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist) went 2-for-4 with two RBI
Carli Wheeler (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist) went 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI and
Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan HS) went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
