Game 1 Box Score / Game 2 Box Score
PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College softball team opened its home schedule by splitting a doubleheader with the Mississippi College Choctaws (9-1, 1-1 ASC East) in American Southwest Conference East Division play. LC won the first game 5-3 and dropped the second by a count of 7-2.

In the first half of the doubleheader, the Lady Cats (12-2, 4-2 ASC East) were able to secure the win thanks to a six-strikeout complete game by Rene' Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) and a three-run bottom of the fourth.

Overall, LC scored five runs on 10 hits but committed three errors.

Junior Kelsey Brown (Rayne, La./Notre Dame-Crowley/Hinds CC) paced the LC offense with a 2-for-3, two-RBI performance at the plate.

Brown finished the doubleheader 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI.

Sophomore Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview HS) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Stephanie Jaeger (Haughton, La./Haughton HS) and Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan HS) both went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

In the second game, LC surrendered four runs on three hits and three errors in the first inning and never recovered.

Despite two late home runs – one by Brown and one by junior Cassie DeCoste (Pineville, La./Pineville HS), whose solo shot in the seventh was the first round-tripper of her career – LC could muster very little on offense.

Kelly Williams (West Monroe, La./St. Thomas More HS) took the loss and fell to 5-2 on the year while Kim Mason (1-0) earned the win.

LC returns to action Tuesday at 4 p.m. with an ASC East home doubleheader against LeTourneau.
