Box Score
PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College men finished their two-game American Southwest Conference homestand with a 63-58 win over Sul Ross State.
It was a game that featured a battle of the bigs as LC senior
Korey Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye HS) and Lobos center Colton Thompson showcased their talents in the low post.
The 6-foot-9 Salmon went 8-for-14 from the field, scored 17 points, blocked five shots, snagged eight rebounds and dished out a pair of assists while the 6-7 Thompson went 7-for-12 from the field, scored 17, made seven rebounds, blocked three shots and had a steal.
The difference in the game was supporting cast. While Salmon had a pair of teammates to join him in double-figures, Thompson had only one fellow Lobo with high points on the night, Bralyn Thomas with 17.
LC senior point guard
Jelani Mitchell (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville HS) was good for 15 points, four assists and five steals while senior win
Jarrod Jackson put up 12 points and sunk a pair of critical free throws with just nine second to play to put the game out of reach.
Defense was the Wildcats' calling card on the night. LC forced Sul Ross into 21 turnovers and blocked seven total shots, the last two coming courtesy of junior post
Derrick Gardner (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville HS).
Next up for LC is a visit to rival Mississippi College on Tuesday.
