PINEVILLE, La. – The Wildcats jumped out to 17-0 lead and never looked back here Thursday night, shooting 52 percent from the field en route to an 83-68 American Southwest Conference win over Ozarks.
LC (7-7, 6-4 ASC) won its third straight game and halted a two-game win streak for Ozarks (6-11, 3-9 ASC).
It was the 297th career win for longtime LC head coach
Gene Rushing.
The Wildcats, who never trailed, led 44-27 at the half and outscored Ozarks 41-39 in the second half to secure the win.
LC shot 46.2 percent from three-point range on the night, sinking 12 of its 26 attempts.
JeLani Mitchell, who scored a game-high 19 points, was 3-for-5 from three-point range while
Jarrod Jackson (18 total points) went 4-for-7.
Danny Sumner score nine of his 15 points on 3-for-9 shooting from three-point range.
In the low post, LC was equally dominant with
Korey Salmon scoring eight points, pulling down 11 rebounds and blocking five shots. Senior
Chukwuma Ekeh was good for nine points, four assists and two blocks on the evening.
Ozarks, which shot 33 percent from the field and 29 percent from three-point range, was paced by 18 points from Dustin Morrett, who came off the bench to sinck 4-of-8 three-point attempts.
Center Marcus Bobb put up a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Eagles while Andre Williams was good for 15.
Next up for LC is a home conference showdown against perennial ASC power Texas Dallas, an ASC representative in the NCAA tournament last year. The game will tip at 3 p.m.
