PINEVILLE, La. - The Louisiana College women's soccer team continued to show signs of improvement, but D-I Centenary, a team that will become a conference rival for the Lady Wildcats in a matter of years, proved the better on this night and registered a 4-0 win over LC in the home opener for the Lady Wildcats.
LC, which fell to 0-3 on the young season, had to ward off a total of 30 shots from Centenary, 18 of which were on goal, and eight corners.
Sophomore goalie
Emily Breaux (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) continued to add to her season saves total, wracking up 14 on the night.
The Lady Wildcats also proved to be quite the discipline team, committing only four fouls in the contest.
Centenary, however, got two goals in the first half and two in the second, one apiece from Kelly Fossard, Candace Rusing, Kortney Causey and Erika Rautio.
Rusing assisted on Fossard and Causey's goal while Allie Cortes provided the assist on Rusing's and Rautio scored an unassisted goal late.
Next up for the Lady Wildcats (as well as the LC men's soccer team) will be a four-game road trip which will take them first to Conway, Ark., for visits to Hendrix (Sept. 10) and Central Baptist (Sept. 11) before beginning conference play with visits to the University of the Ozarks (Sept. 16) and Texas Dallas (Sept. 18).
