RICHARDSON, Texas – One bad inning, perhaps the worst of the year, cost the No. 1-ranked Louisiana College Lady Wildcats a sweep over Texas Dallas here Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Wildcats fell 7-5 in the first half the doubleheader thanks to giving up seven runs, only two of which were earned, in the sixth inning of a game they had led 5-0.

And, while LC bounced back to claim a 13-1 win in a mercy-rule shortened game, they still had to travel home with only the second blemish on their 2010 record, which now sits at 30-2 overall and 14-2 in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

Junior Rene Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville High) was in the circle and took the loss in game one to fall to 18-1 on the year despite pitching six innings and striking out 12 while allowing seven hits and issuing just one walk.

Kelly Williams (West Monroe, La./St. Thomas More), another junior, improved to 6-1 on the year in game two after pitching all five innings and allowing just three hits while walking no one and striking no one out.

Despite the disappointing finish of the first contest, the Lady Wildcats still had plenty of offensive stars.
Senior second baseman Ashleigh Clement (Oak Grove, La./Oak Grove High) went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, sophomore third baseman Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan High) scored two runs, senior outfielder Allison Frye (Pineville, La./Pineville High) scored one run and senior shortstop Mary Alice Roy (Pride, La./Central Private) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and one driven in.

In game two, the offensive stars were even more numerous.

Freshman first baseman Leslie Eastham (Baton Rouge, La./Woodlawn High) went 3-for-3 with a homerun, two runs scored and one RBI to lead the way.

Freshman outfielder Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist) went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and one RBI while senior center fielder Jodi Montagnino (Baton Rouge, La./Christian Life) went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Frye went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored while Greene went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Roy 2-for-3 with an run scored and an RBI.

Texas Dallas' record now stands at 14-16 overall and 3-14 in ASC East play.

Jeni Olbeter (5-8) was the winning pitcher in game one while Mallory Myers (7-9) took the loss in game two.

LC's next game will take place Tuesday at 4 p.m. when the Lady Wildcats host Mississippi College in an ASC East doubleheader.
