3/6/2010 8:37:51 PM

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - The Lady Wildcats had little trouble expanding their winning streak at the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament to 27 straight or extending their season-opening undefeated streak to 10-0 here Saturday. LC allowed no runs through two games, along the way defeating Schreiner 8-0 and Sul Ross 9-0.

These games marked the completion of a four-game weekend for LC in which the Lady Wildcats just one total run to be scored.

Rene Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville High) pitched the entirety of game 1 and improved to 7-0 on the year with a two-hit, five strike-out performance.

Kelsey Brown (Rayne, La./Notre Dame-Crowley High/Hinds Community College) was the top batter in game 1 going 2-for-3 with a two-RBI double.

Senior second baseman Ashleigh Clement (Oak Grove, La./Oak Grove High) went 1-for-2 with an RBI double.

In game 2, the names changed but the results remained the same for LC as freshman pitcher Carli Wheeler (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist High) pitched a complete game, struck out seven and allowed just three hits to earn the win and move to 2-0 on the year.

Wheeler was also 1-for-2 at the plate with a two-RBI double and two runs scored.

Ashly Martin (New Orleans, La./Academy of Our Lady) added a two-RBI single in the contest.

LC's dominance was typical for all ASC East Division teams at the First Pitch Tournament as the East squads won 21 of the 28 games on the weekend.

LC will have little time to revel in its win, though. The Lady Wildcats have only a few days rest before departing for Panama City, Fla. and the NCAA Division III Leadoff Tournament, where some of the top teams in the nation will await.

Among the teams that will test LC's metal will be Emerson, Lynchburg and Ramapo.

LC will face Emerson this Friday at 11 a.m., Lynchburg Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Ramapo on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Should the Lady Wildacts qualify for bracket play, they would begin that portion of the tournament on Saturday at a time to be determined.
