PINEVILLE – LeTourneau didn't make it easy but the No. 1-ranked Louisiana College softball team managed to best its American Southwest Conference East Division foe with two come-from-behind wins in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader.
LC, which improved to 25-1 overall and 9-1 in ASC East play, defeated LeTourneau 8-7 in game one and 6-4 in game 2.
In the first contest, LC trailed 3-0 after 1 ½ innings thanks to a three-run homerun but Crissy Simmons but scored two runs in the second and five in the third to take a commanding lead.
The Lady Wildcats added another run in the sixth which proved important as LeTourneau's Christian Mickleboro connected on a three-run homerun in the seventh, a play that netter LeTourneau its seventh run of the game.
LC, however, was able to close the door on a would-be comeback thanks to the work of junior pitcher Kelly Williams, who picked up her first save of the season pitching three innings of relief behind winning pitcher Rene Schwartzenburg (16-0).
Offensively, LC was paced by senior second baseman Ashleigh Clement, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI with three doubles.
Other top performers in game included Brittany Menard (2-for-2 with an RBI) and Allison Frye (2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored).
In game two, the Lady Wildcats again turned to Williams for pitching and the junior responded with a a complete-game victory, one which improved her record to 3-1 as a starter.
The game was no cake walk, though, and LC had to rally from down 3-1 in the fourth inning to pick up the win.
Mary Alice Roy, Jodi Montagnino and Devan Greene all went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Wildcat offense.
Roy scored two runs and drove in another, Montagnino had one RBI and Greene a run scored and an RBI.
Menard went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the contest.
Next up for the Lady Wildcats are back-to-back home doubleheaders against conference opponent the University of the Ozarks.
The first doubleheader will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday with the second doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday.
