CLINTON, Miss. – The No 1-ranked Louisiana College Lady Wildcats softball team rebounded from their first loss of the year in a big way here Saturday, sweeping an American Southwest Conference East Division road doubleheader against No. 9 Mississippi College, 9-4 and 9-0.

The Lady Wildcats (23-1, 7-1 in ASC East play) came from behind to win game one and needed just five innings to mercy-rule the Lady Choctaws in game two.

The constant in both contests was solid pitching and timely hitting.

Junior Rene Schwartzenburg (15-0) picked up the win for LC in the first game, going all seven innings and striking out four and walking one while allowing just four hits and two earned runs.

Junior Kelly Williams (2-1) earned the win in game two going all five innings and striking out five while issuing four walks and allowing just two hits.

At the plate, virtually every Lady Wildcats played a roll.

In game one, LC scored its nine runs on six hits while committing two errors. MC scored four runs on four hits with one error.

Senior second baseman Ashleigh Clement, junior catcher Amber Thomas and sophomore third baseman Devan Greene had the big bats in the first contest.

Clement went 1-for-2 with four RBI, thee of which coming on a double in the first inning.

Thomas went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Greene 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Both players were responsible for two-RBI doubles in the fifth inning.

Other top performers for the Lady Wildcats included Brittany Menard (1-for-3, three runs scored), Kelsey Brown (run scored), Jodi Montagnino (run scored) and Mary Alice Roy (two runs scored).

In game two, it was Montagnino and Roy who shined

Montagnino went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and three driven in. She also hit her team-leading seventh home run with a three-run shot in the second inning.

Roy went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Menard went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Clement 1-for-2 with two RBI and Leslie Eatham 1-for-1 with a run scored and two batted in all on a pinch-hit two-RBI double in the fourth inning.

Next up for the Lady Wildcats will be a three-game home stand beginning Tuesday with a doubleheader against ASC East for LeTourneau and concluding with back-to-back doubleheaders against the University of the Ozarks on Thursday and Friday
