LONGVIEW, Texas – It's not getting any easier but the Lady Wildcat keep finding ways to win. Friday, Louisiana College's No. 1-ranked softball team swept a road doubleheader from LeTourneau, 8-0 and 9-4, to improve to 20-0 on the season and 4-0 in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
The dual wins not only kept LC perfect on the year, but set the stage for a showdown between the Lady Wildcats, currently ranked No. 1 in the nation, and the No. 2 Texas-Tyler Patriots Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Pineville.
Friday, LeTourneau posed some problems for LC in game two, but game one was the Rene' Schwartzenburg show as the junior pitcher improved to 13-0 on the year with a six-inning shutout in which she allowed just five hits and struck out six while walking two.
It was her second shutout of the week.
Sophomore third baseman Devan Greene was the top batter in game one, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Freshman Meggie Burkett got in on the act with a 1-for-1, one-run-scored performance while freshman outfielder and leadoff Brittany Menard went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Menard was also a key cog in the Lady Wildcats' offense in game two, going 3-for-4 with two run scored in that contest.
Senior first baseman Aimee Dubroc, however, had the big hit of the game with a solo home run in the seventh inning of a game in which she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Other offensive standouts for LC included Mary Alice Roy (1-for-3 with two RBI) and Jodi Montagnino (1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored).
Freshman pitcher Carli Wheeler (6-0) picked up the win in game two going four innings and allowing four hits.
