BELTON, Texas - The Louisiana College softball team remained undefeated following a road doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Lady Cats improved to 4-0 on the young season by virtue of wins of 8-0 and 10-3 against the Lady Cru.
In game one, All-American pitcher Rene Schwartzenburg (2-0) was nearly unhittable, pitching a seven-inning shutout with nine strikeouts and four walks.
“She handled them pretty well,” LC coach Tim Whitman said. “She walked more than we would like her to, but she did a good job.”
The Lady Cats' offense, meanwhile, had no trouble ringing up hits, 12 in all, en route to the lopsided win.
Kelsey Brown was the offensive leader for LC with a 3-for-3 performance at the plater that included three runs scored and two batted in, including three home runs.
“Kelsey had a big day for us,” Whitman said. “That last home run she hit was a real bomb.”
Allison Frye went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI and Mary Alice Roy went 2-for-5 with an RBI in game 1.
Game 2 went just as well for LC as pitchers Jodi Montagnino and Carli Wheeler joined with Schwartzenburg to hold UMHB to just six hits and three runs.
The LC offense was again good for 12 hits with Brown again leading the charge to the tune of a 3-for-5 performance with three runs scored and three batted in.
Montagnino went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two batted in, Roy 2-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI and Brittany Menard 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
The Lady Cats return to action Tuesday with their home opener against Southern University at 4 p.m
