PINEVILLE, La. – The Wildcats of Louisiana College made 13 threes in their Thursday night match-up with the Tigers of East Texas Baptist University. Unfortunately, they attempted 31 shots from behind the arc, so more than half of those possessions saw the home team come away with no points.
Missed shots from long range and losing the battle on their defensive boards plagued the Wildcats as they dropped their second game in a row, falling by a score of 82-67.
Jelani Mitchell led the hosts with 17 points, shooting four for eight from behind the three-point arc.
Daniel Greenhouse also shot 4-8 from three-point land and he and Korey Salmon each added 14 points in the loss.
LC opened the second half with 18 points on six threes, and was able to maintain the three-point deficit they found themselves losing by at halftime.
The Wildcats tied the game at 52, and then trailed by four points with only three minutes to play, but could not eliminate East Texas Baptists' advantage, which was extended to ten on the heels of a 22 point effort by the Tiger's James Morman.
ETBU's Deba Egharevba added fourteen points and led all players with 8 rebounds, helping the Tigers out-rebound LC by a 32-20 margins. Josh Chambers had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists off the bench for the Tigers
Two members of the ETBU team were returning to their home state of Louisiana. RJ Prince from Hornbeck came off the bench to have a productive 12-point night in the victory, and Jacob Turnipseed, former Class-B MVP from Anacoco, scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
The game was relatively clean, as the teams only turned the ball over 21 times combined. Due to inclement weather conditions, the referees were unable to make it to Pineville. The referees from the women's contest filled in to call the second game of the double-header.
The Wildcats fall to 6-10 in conference play, and now have a slim chance to qualify for one of the four playoff spots from the East. The ETBU tigers improve to 10-7 in the ASC, and continue to hold onto the third spot in the Eastern division.
