LC downs Lobos in overtime

ALPINE, Texas - The Louisiana College men picked up a much-needed conference win in extra time here Satruday afternoon, downing Sul Ross State 71-70 in overtime.

In what turned out to be a close game through out, the Wildcats (3-4, 2-2 American Southwest Conference) trailed the Lobos (2-5, 1-3 ASC) 33-32 at the half but outscored the home team 31-30 in the second half and 8-7 in overtime to notch the win.

Six-foot-9 junior post Korey Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye HS) put up his second straight double-double, 22 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists, two blocks and a steal, to lead the Wildcats.

Junior point guard JeLani Mitchell (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville HS) - who along with sophomore wing Phillip George (Baton Rouge, La./Family Christian Academy) played all 45 minutes of the game - was good for 17 points, four assists, three boards and a steal.

Senior post Chukwuma Ekeh (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard HS) put up 19 points and junjor wing Jarrod Jackson (Albany, La./Albany HS) 10 points and seven rebounds for LC.

Sul Ross State was paced by Jimmy Martinez with 22 points.

The win was the 293rd of LC coach Gene Rushing's career.

LC, which has now wrapped its longes road trip of the season, will next face American Southwest Conference opponent Concordia. This will be a home contest which will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 9.
