BELTON, Texas - The LC men's basketball team logged perhaps its biggest win of the season while the No. 22 Lady Cats suffered one their biggest disappointments here Thursday.
While Wildcats notched a huge, 81-66 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor to improve to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in American Southwest Conference play, the LC women came up short, 53-44, to fall to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in ASC play.
The Wildats got another solid performance out of 6-foot-9 sophomore post Korey Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye High), who posted his second-straight double-dobule with 16 points and 12 rebounds tp pace LC's men, who outscored UMHB 34-27 in the firs half and 47-39 in the second.
Three other Wildcats reached double-figure scoring in the game: Daniel greenhouse (13), JeLani Mitchell (12), and Chukwuma Ekeh (10 points, five rebounds).
Theo Ard paced the Cru with an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double.
While LC men were on fire, the Lady Cats were somewhat cold, shooting just 30.5 percent from the field, 25 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 44.4 percent at the free-throw line for the game en route to vbeing outscored 21-15 in the first half and 32-29 in the second.
Sophomore guard Roslyn Wilmer (Marksville, La./Marksville High) socred 11 points to lead the LC women and was the only Lady Cat to reach double figures on the night (Joanna Tate scored nine and Tillisha Givens eight in the game).
UMHB's women were led by Kellie White, who scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
This was the first in a three-game conference road trip for the LC men and women. Next up for both teams will by a Saturday afternoon showdown with Concordia.
