SEGUIN, Texas – The Louisiana College men's basketball team continued its early-season hot streak while the women suffered their first loss of the young season Saturday in American Southwest Conference play against Texas Lutheran. While the men toughed out a 66-62 win, the Lady Cats fell 73-69.

In what was a close game throughout, the LC men held a 36-33 lead at the break and outscored Texas Lutheran 30-29 in the second half to log their third win of the season (the Wildcats stand at 3-2 overall and 2-1 in ASC play).

Sophomore guard Jarrod Jackson was on fire in the game scoring 21 points, pulling down eight rebounds, blocking two shots and dishing out three assists for LC.

Fellow Wildcats Korey Salmon and Jelani Mitchell also had solid games.

Salmon, a 6-foot-9 post player, had a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double with two blocks while Mitchell, a guard, added 11 points, two steals and three assists in the win.

Texas Lutheran was led by Isaac Williams, who scored a game-high 25.

LC's women, who had defeated No. 22 Hardin-Simmons in their last outing, held a 36-33 halftime lead, were outscored 40-33 in the second half to fall to 3-1 on the year (2-1 in the ASC), nullifying an amazing outing by the emerging “Big Three” for the Lady Cats, junior post Tillisha Givens, freshman post Voneshia Williams and junior guard Christy Pantallion.

Pantallion led all scorers with 28 points and also pulled down seven rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked a shot.

Williams recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds to go along with an assist and a steal while Givens put up 13 points.

The duo of Tamisha Timpson and Kimberlay Hagan were tops for Texas Lutheran with 14 points apiece.
